Basic Life Support (BLS) is recommended for anyone in the healthcare profession.

This may included:   Physician, Nurses, Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians, Police Officers, Firefighters, Respiratory, Physical, and Occupational Therapists, Physician Assistant, Residents, Medical or Nursing students in training, Aides, medical assistant or nursing assistants and other allied health personnel.

Course Content  

• describe the importance of high-quality CPR and its impact on survival
• describe all of the steps of the Chain of Survival and apply its BLS concepts
• recognize the signs of someone needing CPR
• perform high-quality CPR on adults, children, and infants
• describe the importance of early AED use and demonstrate using one
• provide effective ventilations with a barrier device
• describe the importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and perform as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
• describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants.

• Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant
• The AHA Chain of Survival

Heart Code BLS  (Online with Access Key and Skills Check)  (Formerly BLS Health Care Provider)

*Payment must be received to receive online access key

Heart Code BLS is the online portion of the BLS course when taken in a blended-learning format. It uses a variety of eLearning assets -- such as dramatizations, e Simulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities -- to teach students BLS knowledge and skills. After completing the online portion, including passing the online exam with a score of 84% or higher, students attend a structured Instructor-led classroom session that focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing.

Part 1: A self paced (1 to 2 hour in length)

Part 2&3: You will attend an Instructor-led, video-based classroom portion focused on skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing to obtain the AHA CPR E-Card (1.5 hour)

Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Course:

Requirements for Instructor Candidates should be as follow: 

• Be 18 years of age or older
• Candidates must have a current AHA BLS Provider Card (only AHA BLS cert accepted) 
• Must align with a AHA Training Center to issue cards through. You will have the chance to align with our Training Center.
• Be proficient in your BLS skills
• Successfully complete the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course.
• Successfully be monitored teaching their first course within 3 month of completing the discipline-specific classroom. Instructor Course (AHA Faculty can require additional monitoring if needed). 

As a BLS Instructor, candidates can teach the following courses:

• BLS- Basic Life Support (for Healthcare Providers)
• Heart Saver First Aid CPR AED
• Heart Saver CPR AED
• Heart Saver First Aid
• Heart Saver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED

Candidates who successfully complete the steps listed below will receive an American Heart Association BLS Instructor certification, valid for two years.

• Step 1: Have a current American Heart Association BLS Provider certification
• Step 2: Complete the  BLS Instructor Essential Online Course . (Included)
• Step 3: Obtain the course manuals:  BLS Instructor Manual and BLS Provider Manual. (included)
• Step 4: Complete the in-class session conducted by BLS Training Center Faculty
• Step 5: Align with CGS CPR Specialist (alignment is automatic for new instructors)
• Step 6: Successfully be monitored teaching a course (within 3 month of attending the in-class session)(First monitoring included)

 Note: You must have equipment including Manikins, AED trainer and course videos to teach a course for the monitor session.
